Nicole Szarko, CPA is a founding member of Fitzpatrick, Leary & Szarko and is the leader of the firm’s accounting and auditing practice, and the Quality Control Director for the firm.  With more than 19 years of public accounting experience, Nicole specializes in accounting and auditing for non-profit organizations, including preparation of nonprofit financial statements and related analysis, preparation of management reports, nonprofit tax returns, and presentations to management and board members. A large percentage of her nonprofit client base resides in membership organizations, mental health providers, HUD projects, audits under the Uniform Guidance (previously A-133 compliance based audits), grant based organizations and numerous societies and charities. Nicole delivers a proven methodology and documentation approach, excellence in execution and a commitment to quality and controls. In addition, Nicole has extensive expertise in a variety of other industries, including manufacturing and distribution and insurance. Nicole has utilized her expertise to assist in internal control analysis and design, obtaining financing, cash flow forecasting, operational reviews, controllership duties, agreed upon procedure engagements and various other matters.

Nicole received a Bachelor’s degree from Towson University. She is a member of the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Recently, Nicole was recognized as one of the top CPAs in Maryland by SmartCEO Magazine.
